| SSTUWA Executive: Wendy Perriam |
I am married with 2 adult sons and 3 grandchildren, in Pre Primary, Primary and 1st year High School. I am a full time Early Childhood teacher and I am very aware of the need for a valid, comprehensive and inclusive public education, that is adequately funded and resourced. The Members First team will continue to work on this and many other issues.I have participated actively in the SSTUWA for 30 years , in Pre Primary, Primary and also TAFE areas, in both country (Kalgoorlie, Laverton and Mt Margaret schools) and more recently in metropolitan schools. The last 13 years I have been Union Representative for 2 Swan District Schools, Marangaroo Primary and at present Rawlinson Primary. Over the last 13 years I have represented Swan District teachers at District and State Councils. AS a consequence of my extensive Union background, I have wide background experience and knowledge of SSTUWA issues, both past and present. I have been a participant at Union Representative courses and have been actively involved in lobbying for changes. I have been involved in CIP2 and Inclusivity working parties and am a member of the SSTUWA International Committee. My extensive experience in multicultural/ ESL schools helped when I was involved in the trialling of ESL/ESD Progress Maps and Strategies within my own class and with other teachers in my school. I have a very personal interest in Special Needs/ Education Support and understand the system problems that are inherent in getting the best outcome for all children, irrespective of their ability. My training as an Equal Opportunity Contact Officer gives me the ability to relate to different people, to advise, listen and negotiate outcomes, also the knowledge to search for extra information. AS a member of the Members First team, I can bring full time teaching experience over many years to the team, the ability to juggle my personal and professional lives and the ability to listen to what you, the Union members want. This last EBA has been a highlight for the Members First team, with considerable improvements in salary and no trade off of conditions. The issues that are still on the table, include Work load, Behaviour Management, for the Primary DOTT parity, and for the Secondary the Half Year Cohort and the problems with subject areas, staff retention and all the timetabling issues. TAFE have their own battles with privatisation. The Members First team will work together to give you, the teachers, the best team to promote on -going improvements in all areas of the WA educational system. I would urge you to support Members First and elect the whole team. |
